How to find fonts in images

Let’s say a client gave you an image, a JPG file for example of a logo he wants for his business. How do you know which fonts are used in the logo? I have this situation just a few days ago.

The solution is relatively simple. There are several online services that can help you identify fonts from an image.

The services are mainly free but they have paid features. I have tested three of these sites and they work perfectly.

The sites promote fonts for sale because after they recognize the fonts they offer you mainly paid fonts but there are tons of sites that offer the same font for free.

Online sites that find fonts in images

Whatfontis is the first site I have tested and it works just fine. The process of recognizing the font has three easy and very intuitive steps and the results come in a few seconds.

Here is a review from a client with whom I perfectly agree.

One of the best ways for designers to identify fonts used in images and locate a source for downloading them, @WhatFontIs leverages advanced AI to find the right font.

They have a catalog of 790K+ fonts (commercial or free) and font finder AI. For every image uploaded the site provides over 60 fonts.

These site is the best I have tried but there are others that do exactly the same thing like:

Find fonts in images with Adobe Photoshop

You can find also a font with Adobe Photoshop which is of course a paid program that has now a very affordable monthly subscription.

The steps of finding a font in an image with Adobe Photoshop are:

  • Open the image in Photoshop and select the Rectangular Marquee Tool. Use this tool to select the area of the image that contains the text you want to match.
  • From the toolbar, choose Type > Match Font.
  • Choose from the matched fonts already installed on your machine, or download from Typekit by clicking the cloud icon.
  • Now add text to the image using the matched font.

They work only with Adobe Fonts so the results are restricted to their fonts. I think this tool has to be developed more in the future.

Cateva site-uri cu sunet de vacanță

Dacă tot stăm mai mult prin casă, m-am gândit că poate ție dor de sunetul pădurii sau al focului trosnind. Poate ție dor de zgomotele de la birou sau de valurile de pe plajă.

Am strâns pentru tine o listă de site-uri cu sunete de fundal, care sunt foarte bune când ai mult de lucru și nu vrei să fi deconcentrat de reclamele de la radio. În același timp vei avea un zgomot plăcut de fundal cu sunete de râuri, cascade, vânt, păsărele sau multe alte lucruri care să te relaxeze.

Este unul din preferatele mele. Site-ul combină muzică de jazz gen caffe concert, cu sunete de foc în șemineu sau de ploaie cu tunete.

Cam al doilea pe lista mea și în preferințele mele este acest site unde poți combina sunete de vânt, cascade păsărele, broaște si multe altele. Toate sunetele sunt gratuite și poți creea și fițiere waw care să le asculți pe alte dispozitive.

Un site asemănător cu cel prezentat mai înainte. Acesta aduce însă o varietate mult mai mare de sunete, în varianta plătită însă. Prețul este un pic cam piperat după părerea mea – 8 euro/lună.

Un site asemănător cu cele de mai sus, numai că este complet gratuit. Are și posibilitatea de a seta un timer sau posibilitatea de a salva mixul creat. Unicitatea acestui site vine din faptul că are și aplicație pentru smartphone, fie el cu sistem de operare Andoid sau IOS.

Este complet gratuit și oferă o varietate uimitoare de sunete inedite, cum ar fi: grădină japoneză, coasta irlandeză, pădure primordială. Sunetele pot fi foarte fin reglate cu ajutorul unui sintetizator. Unealtă destul de rară în peisajul site-urilor de acest gen.

Site-ul are cîteva fișiere gratuite și multe altele, cu plată. În jur de 1 euro bucata. Voi hotărâți dacă merită achiziția. Aveți de asemenea și aplicație pentru telefon.

Site-ul are, un background animat, care surprinde o cameră de cabană cu focul în șemineu aprins. Afară plouă și tună în depărtare. Poți seta volumul fiecărui sunet în parte.

Ambient-mixer.com

Un site mai original în această serie, care oferă fișiere cu sunete ambientale din filmul Harry Potter sau Neverland. Lista de sunete este destul de mare și ai la fiecare un sintetizator foarte bogat pentru a filtra doar sunete care îți plac.

Coffitivity.com

Același gen de site ca cel anterior. Majoritatea sunetelor sunt însă în secțiunea cu plată. Costa însă doar 9$ pe an ca să asculți zgomotul de fundal al Parisului sau al unui bistro din Brazilia.

Cel mai simplu site de pînă acum. Poți asculta doar ploaia. Ai și aplicație de mobil evident pentru Android sau IOS.

Lucru online cu fisiere PDF

De curând am testat un nou site unde care poti lucra cu fisiere PDF. Este unul dintre cele mai complete site-uri ce oferă tool-uri de lucru cu fisiere PDF. În trecut am mai testat și alte site-uri ce oferă aceleași servicii și acesta este mult mai bun.

Ce poți face pe ilovepdf.com?

Serviiciile oferite de site sunt:

  • Convertire de fisiere PDF
    • JGP – PDF
    • WORD – PDF
    • Excell – PDF
    • PowerPoint – PDF
    • HTML – PDF
    • toate aceste operații pot fi făcute și în sens invers
  • Unire fișiere PDF
  • Despărțire fisiere PDF
  • Extragere de pagini dintr-un fisier PDF
  • Comprimare de fisiere PDF

Din toate aceste tool-uri eu am testat tool-ul de comprimare, care funcționează excelent și fără pierderi de calitate. În varianta medie de comprimare am obținut rate de comprimare de peste 70%. Pe măsură ce o să mai testez și celelalte facilități o să revin cu detalii.

Dacă nu ai un program gratuit cu care să generezi fișiere PD,F am scris aici despre unul.

Dacă nu te-ai convins de utilitatea fișierelor PDF te vei convinge cu prima ocazie când vei trimite la tipografie o lucrare sau când un client îți va solicita lucrarea în acest format. Este unul dintre cele mai populare formate de fișiere pentru că nu are pierderi și reproduce întocmai documentul creat de tine, indiferent de programul în care ai lucrat.

Woocommerce templates suitable for your mobile phone

I work a lot with Woocommerce, the plugin that converts your WordPress site in an online shop. Last week I was looking for a suitable Woocommerce template that looks good on a mobile phone.

Free Woocomeerce templates

I found that most of the free templates don’t look good on the mobile phone’s because they don’t have my requested conditions:

  • big titles and prices
  • good desktop layout
  • excellent mobile phone layout

I look from a lot of free templates but I found only one that I liked and I used it on my rebranded affiliate website.

Paid Woocomeerce templates

The only site that provides Woocommerce templates that I liked was Template Monster. The templates I selected are:

I am always searching for good PDF converter online. It is a very useful tool and I use it a lot for small average jobs.

As a result of my previous articles, the guys from pdfconvertfree.com contact me to review their online service.

I was surprised to find a very clean interface and very fast and accurate pdf related services. Yes, there are a lot of other PDF edit  functions on this site, beside PDF converting ones, like:

  • PDF merger (combine as many pdf documents as you like)
  • PDF splitter
  • PDF compressor (makes file 40% smaller)
  • PDF rotator (interesting is that you can rotate only some specific pages from a multiple page document)
  • PDF protect (you can set up a password for you pdf file)
  • PDF grayscale (convert color documents to grayscale ones)

I tested all of these functions and they work perfectly. You have to be aware that those functions are for average users, that don’t need to do professionals pdf editing jobs.

But the big and very various part of the site is the …

PDF converter service

So you can convert:

  • PDF to image (jpg, png, bmp, and tiff)
  • PDF to Word – known as OCR service is very useful
  • PDF to Excel – also an OCR function available only on paid software

There are also converters that I couldn’t find even on paid OCR software like:

  • PDF to PPTX (PowerPoint files)
  • PDF to TXT
  • PDF to EPUB (specialized eBook files)
  • PDF to SVG (specialized files websites design like logos with transparent background)

You can do also some reverse conversions like:

  • Word to PDF
  • Image to PDF
  • Epub to PDF
  • Latex to PDF – if you don’t have a clue like what those files are you can read here about them.

I tested all of the above and they work very well, fast and accurate.

Pluses

  • Fast and accurate PDF converter service
  • Drag and drop interface
  • Very intuitive interface
  • The files are cleaned from the server after 15 minutes
  • The service is totally free not like other sites that I review in previous articles

Minuses

  • For the majority of those services, you can work with files that have a maximum of 5 Mb. It means that you can work with black and white documents with maximum 10 pages and with color documents that have 4-5 pages. That is for printed documents that have to be 300 dpi. If you have documents that are destinated for the screen ( documents for websites or presentations has 72 dpi), you can work with files with many more pages. I understand this restriction from the point of view of much larger resources needed. May in the future they will increase the file size that you can process.
  • The PNG files that I obtained from pdf documents don’t appear to be with transparent background as they should be. But this is a very surprising function that even professional software doesn’t have. So I couldn’t expect that a free service can do this.
  • Some PDF files that I converted to Word documents have some minor errors, but the service is much better than others I tested.

Looking forward

In the meantime, they promise to send me a desktop version of their online software that I am very anxious to test it.
